As we head into the warmer months, how can we ‘cool’ down our home?

When it comes to cooling down your home reaching for the aircon remote isn’t your only option!  Filling your space with the right colours, materials, lighting and decorative pieces can certainly help 'cool' things down. These elements have a major impact in the warmer months – and are cost effective too!

Freshen up the base colours of your home with lots of white. It’s not always easy to add a fresh lick of paint to a space but if you really want to revive it, this is a great option. Consider pairing back or removing any deep moody tones and replace them with white or fresh colours. Muted blues, greens and yellows are gorgeous at this time of the year. They reflect those dreamy holiday destinations that we are so longing to return to. Try incorporating these colours into cushions, decorative items or even artwork.

Pair back any heavy warm throws and velvet or fluffy cushions, then add in ones that are made from a light cotton or linen. This is where you can start adding in those fresh muted colours! In bedrooms, swap out your warm toasty sheet sets for cotton, linen or bamboo. These fabrics are much more breathable and will keep you cooler on those hot summer nights. If you have heavy drapings over windows, it’s a good idea to swap these out for a lighter fabric. This will really freshen up the space! As the temperature rises, you’ll want to keep the heat out. Layer your window solution with a block out blind to keep the cool air in and the warm sun out.

One of the perks of daylight savings is the natural light that floods into your home late into the evening. Your space stays brighter for longer – plus, you’ll save money on the electricity bill! Another great way to make your home feel brighter is to look at your light globes. If you have globes that are emitting a warm colour, consider swapping them out for a brighter, whiter coloured globe. Chat to an expert at any lighting store for further support in getting the perfect colour.

Decorative Objects:

Clean lines enhance that fresh feeling in a space. If your home is overcrowded with lots of clutter, think about removing anything that is unnecessary. Rather than lots of decorative items on a mantle or shelf, try just one or two statement pieces. A vase with a bunch of fresh citrus leaves will bring the outdoors in and give off a fresh scent too! Layering it in front of a large summer or ocean themed photograph can also help to create a summery vibe in your home.
