Our privacy policy

At Bernie Lewis your privacy is important to us. We comply with the National Privacy Principles of the Privacy Act 1988 (as amended) which apply from 21 December 2001. Our obligations of confidentiality also comply with the Mortgage & Finance Association of Australia’s Code of Practice, the Code of Banking Practice, our Australian Financial Services License and the credit/wealth provider provisions in the Privacy Act 1988.

The personal information that you provide to us is used to assess your eligibility for, and provide you with a loan facility, or to assist you in meeting the eligibility requirements for a loan facility. You need not give us any of the personal information about you or any other person, which may be requested in our communications with you. However, without that information, we may not be able to process an application, fulfil your request or provide you with an appropriate level of service.

The personal information you provide may be disclosed to other parties, at our discretion, in order to provide the facility. These parties generally may include lenders, mortgage insurers, valuers, conveyancers, credit reporting agencies, solicitors, real estate agents and Bernie Lewis agents and contractors.

We take all reasonable steps to protect your personal information from misuse, loss, unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. We provide security when you use our online products and services. We have physical, electronic and procedural safeguards to protect your personal information, which is held by us. For example, your personal information is stored in secured premises, in electronic databases requiring logins and passwords for access and/or at one of our secured warehouses.

Access to information stored electronically is restricted to staff whose job purpose requires access. We require all staff to maintain the confidentiality of customer information. We use secure methods to destroy or de-identify any personal information as soon as the law permits, provided the information is no longer needed by us for any purpose for which the information may be used, or disclosed, under the National Privacy Principles of the Privacy Act (1988) (Cth).

We are required to send you certain information to comply with various laws including, for example, the Uniform Consumer Credit Code and the Financial Transactions Reporting Act. We may send direct marketing information to you to inform you of products and services that may be of interest to you and to remind you of various milestones that may require review, or action during your loan, unless you tell us not to.

Bernie Lewis collects information from its website about you when you:

  • complete an online application or any other type of online form;
  • provide us with your email address; and/or
  • access and use our services through our website.

We also collect some statistical information about visitors, from our website (for example, the number of visitors, pages viewed, types of transactions conducted, time online and documents downloaded). Some of this statistical information may be collected by using cookies, but none of the statistical information we collect allows us to identify a visitor. We use this information to evaluate our website performance and continually improve our services.

Other than statistical information, we do not collect any information about you through our website unless you provide us with this information.
